Psalm 36:5 (NLT)

“Your unfailing love, O Lord, is as vast as the heavens; your faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds.”

Have you ever tried to measure something that’s impossible to measure? Our human minds cannot comprehend how big and how wide his love is.

Psalm 36:5 gives us a breathtaking comparison: God’s love is as vast as the heavens. The kind that should anchor your soul, especially in the seasons where you feel like you’ve run out of grace.

Love That Never Runs Out

We all hit moments where we wonder if we’ve exhausted God’s mercy. Maybe you’ve felt like you’ve gone too far, messed up one too many times, or strayed beyond redemption.

But here’s the good news: You haven’t. You never will.

In Matthew 18, Jesus tells a powerful parable of an unforgiving debtor—a man forgiven of an unpayable debt. The message? God’s forgiveness covers the kind of debt that would take a thousand lifetimes to repay. His love doesn’t run dry. In fact, it’s relentless.

Peter, trying to grasp the limits of mercy, asked Jesus how many times he should forgive someone. Seven times? Jesus answered, “Seventy times seven.”

21 “Then Peter came to him and asked, “Lord, how often should I forgive someone who sins against me? Seven times?” 22 “No, not seven times,” Jesus replied, “but seventy times seven!” (Matthew 18:21-22 NLT)

Jesus wasn’t giving a math equation—He was showing us how immeasurable and limitless divine forgiveness truly is.

France: “Jesus’ reply to Peter does away with all limits and calculations.”

Mercy Is New Every Morning

Let that sink in: “The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.” (Lamentations 3:22-23 NLT)

Every. Single. Morning.
You get a fresh start. A do-over. A clean slate.

Why? Because His love doesn’t hit a cap. His grace doesn’t run out based on how many times you’ve failed. His faithfulness is bigger than your faults.

Measuring the Immeasurable

Still trying to grasp the scale? Consider this: Mars is about 140 million miles from Earth. A round trip would take about three years with current technology. And that’s just one planet in our solar system.

Now think bigger. The closest star (besides our Sun) is Proxima Centauri—over 25 trillion miles away. Scientists measure that kind of distance in light-years because it’s too much for miles to handle.

And yet, the psalmist compares God’s love to how vast the heavens are.

His love goes farther than your guilt. It outlasts your shame. It stretches into the places you thought were too broken for healing.

Here is just a few stats that you can see how vast his love is…

A quick google research says this about how far Mars is away….

  • “On average, Mars is140 million miles from Earth. However, the distance between the two planets can vary depending on their positions in their orbits around the sun.
  • “A one-way trip to the Red Planet would take nine months but a return journey would be around three years. While these estimates provide a general idea, the actual duration is influenced by several factors. The distance between Earth and Mars changes constantly due to their orbits, and the technology used to propel spacecraft plays a significant role in determining travel time”
  • “The closest star to Earth, excluding our Sun, is Proxima Centauri, which is approximately 4.24 light-years away. That’s 25 trillion miles away!”

Psalm 36:5 NLT “Your unfailing love, O Lord, is as vast as the heavens; your faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds.”

While We Were Still Sinners…

Romans 5:6-8 puts it plainly:

“For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.8But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

Not after you got your life together. Not when you finally made things right. WHILE WE WERE YET SINNERS He was already in pursuit.

That’s what relentless love looks like. It doesn’t wait at the finish line; it runs into the mess with you. And when you fall short, again and again, Jesus doesn’t stand off in disappointment. He steps in as your advocate (Romans 6), ready to forgive and restore.

Final Thoughts: You’re Never Too Far

So if today you feel unworthy, overwhelmed, or too far gone—just remember:

His love is bigger. His mercy is new. And He is in relentless pursuit of you.

There is hope. There is grace. And it’s available to you, right now.
