Keeping Jesus King

“For I will bring them into the land I swore to give their ancestors—a land flowing with milk and honey. There they will become prosperous, eat all the food they want, and become fat. But they will begin to worship other gods; they will despise me and break my covenant.” Deuteronomy 31:20 NLT

There is a danger of dethroning Jesus as King in our lives when the promise of God is being fulfilled.

This doesn’t mean we should be afraid of His promises, but we should be aware of the danger that comes alongside His provision.

Let me make it clear, it is God’s intention to fulfill every promise in His Word for His people.

But with every promise comes the potential of obstacles that can deter us from serving God with all of our heart, soul and mind.

Look at the words of Jesus when he answered about the greatest commandments.

“Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment.” Matthew 22:36-38

Every blessing that God bestows on us can become a curse if we allow it to become first in our life.

And many times, we are blinded by what God intended to help us with, and we allow it to distract us rather than help us.

If He doesn’t have all of our heart, we will be vulnerable to the temptation to serve the temporary. Like the verse says, “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”

If He doesn’t have all of our soul, then we will be enticed in the weakness of our emotions to serve other gods to fill a void that only God our creator can fulfill.

If He doesn’t have all our mind, then our thoughts will become a detriment to our walk and obedience to Him as our King.

The devil knows this; he is the master of deception. He is a fraud, he is a liar, he is a con man.

He knows he cannot win…so, he will do everything within his power to take away from you the very thing that God has intended to add to your life.

Remember why the devil fell? He wanted to be God. And he didn’t go quietly by himself. He took the third of his angels with him.

Since that time, he has been adding to his team, deceiving many by turning their backs on the Author and finisher of their FAITH.

This was the warning that Moses was trying to give to the people of Israel when they were about to enter into the promised land.

“For I will bring them into the land I swore to give their ancestors—a land flowing with milk and honey. There they will become prosperous, eat all the food they want, and become fat. But they will begin to worship other gods; they will despise me and break my covenant.” Deuteronomy 31:20 NLT

First, let me say this. The temptation for the children of Israel to worship someone besides God did not start in the promised land. It started back in Egypt, and it continued in the wilderness.

In Egypt (a typology of sin), they became content in their slavery and pushed back to Moses (their deliverer) complaining that life had been better with hard taskmasters.

If you are living in sin right now, you might think your life is better than what God is trying to offer you.

You have been blinded by the ultimate con man trying to keep you in the bondage of slavery telling you there is no way to escape and there is not a better life.

Don’t bow down to these taskmasters.

There is a promise for something better than the current condition you are living in.

The temptation of the wilderness was to declare that God was not a provider.

If you are in a wilderness season of your life, I want to remind you He is a God of daily provision.

Don’t give into the temptation to take matters in your own hands, or into the temptation to complain or become bitter.

All of these are symptoms to dethrone God as your King!

Unfortunately, a whole generation was lost because they did not believe what God wanted to do in the promised land.

But the generation that was chosen to cross over, had to first wander in the wilderness for 40 years. They learned to trust God as He met their daily needs.

When they finally received the blessings of the promise, Moses gave them a warning to not forget about the God who had brought them there.

It is easy to forget about God when you have everything you need.

We must make sure that we never become independent of Him when it seems like we become self-sufficient.

In the words of Moses, “Become prosperous, eat all the food they want, and become fat.”

Let’s make sure we keep Jesus crowned as the King in our lives…no matter the situation we find ourselves in. He’s the King and there is none like him!
