Psalm 36:5 NLT says, “Your unfailing love, O Lord, is as vast as the heavens; your faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds.” This verse reminds us of the immeasurable, endless love of God—a love that reaches beyond what we can comprehend. His love is not limited by time or space. It’s boundless, it never runs out, and it never ceases.
The Vastness of God’s Love
We’ve been talking about how vast God’s love is, and it’s important to understand that His love never runs out. Just when you think you’ve reached the end of it, there is always more. God’s love is beyond the heavens, beyond the clouds, and beyond anything we can understand. It is always present, never failing, and completely unconditional.
In Psalm 23, David speaks of God’s presence during the darkest times. He writes of walking through the “valley of the shadow of death,” and even in this darkest moment, he finds comfort knowing that God is with him. But in the last verse of the Psalm, David speaks of a love that isn’t just with him in the present, but a love that is actively pursuing him all the days of his life.
God is Pursuing You
Psalm 23:6 says, “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
The phrase “follow me” can also be translated as “in pursuit”, “chasing after”, or “attending closely upon.” God’s love isn’t passive—it actively seeks us out, pursues us, and stays with us. You may feel that you’ve drifted far away from God or that you’re not deserving of His love, but I want to remind you this morning that He is chasing after you. His pursuit of you will never stop.
In Luke 19:10, Jesus said, “For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.” God is always in pursuit of those who are lost, those who feel distant, and those who have strayed.
He’s Still Pursuing You
When Adam and Eve fell in the garden, their first instinct was to run and hide from God. They were ashamed, so they hid from His presence. But even in their shame and guilt, God did not abandon them—He came looking for them.
Genesis 3:8-9 (NLT) says, “When the cool evening breezes were blowing, the man and his wife heard the Lord God walking about in the garden. So they hid from the Lord God among the trees. Then the Lord God called to the man, ‘Where are you?’”
You can run, but you cannot hide from His love. You might try to outrun His grace, but it’s impossible. His love is relentless, and no matter how far you run, He is always in pursuit of you.
Nothing Can Separate Us From God’s Love
Paul reassures us in Romans 8:38-39 (NLT) that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love:
“And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
This means nothing—not our failures, not our fears, and not even when we intentionally turn away from Him—can separate us from His love. God’s love is constant, unwavering, and eternal.
God’s Love and Mercy Never End
Psalm 103:8 (NLT) declares, “The Lord is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.” God’s love is filled with mercy, compassion, and patience. He is slow to anger and quick to forgive, and His love never runs out.
Lamentations 3:22-23 (NLT) reminds us, “The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is His faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each morning.” Every day is a new opportunity to experience the mercy of God—His love is renewed with each new day.
In Ephesians 2:4-5, Paul writes, “But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ (by grace ye are saved).” Even when we were lost in our sins, God, in His mercy, made us alive through Christ.
You Are Never Beyond His Love
God’s love is as vast as the heavens, and His mercy is unending. You can never outpace or outrun His love. No matter where you are or how far you feel from God, He is in relentless pursuit of you. His unfailing love is with you today, tomorrow, and for all eternity.
If you’re feeling distant from God, know that His love is greater than any distance you could create. He is pursuing you, and His mercy is waiting for you to turn toward Him. His love never ends—it is constant, it is faithful, and it is always there for you.
