1 Timothy 1:15–16 (NLT)
“This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it: ‘Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners’, and I am the worst of them all.
But God had mercy on me so that Christ Jesus could use me as a prime example of his great patience with even the worst sinners. Then others will realize that they, too, can believe in him and receive eternal life.”
— 1 Timothy 1:15–16
The Lie We All Fall For
The enemy, the devil, is a master deceiver. His greatest weapon is not violence or power, but lies. Lies that twist half-truths. Lies that distort reality. Lies that make you believe God doesn’t want you anymore.
The biggest lie of all?
“You’ve gone too far. God can’t forgive you now.”
It’s a dangerous belief. It paralyzes people. It stops them from praying. It makes them avoid church. It turns shame into silence. But here’s the truth:
No one is too far gone for God.
Why We Must Expose This Lie
Jesus said it plainly:
“…When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.”
— John 8:44 (NLT)
This isn’t just theology, it’s spiritual warfare. When we believe the enemy’s lies, we begin to operate from bad theology. We believe God’s grace has limits. We believe we’ve out-sinned His mercy.
But Scripture shows us otherwise.
If Paul Wasn’t Too Far Gone, Neither Are You
Paul, the writer of much of the New Testament, called himself “the worst of all sinners.” Why? Because before he met Jesus, he persecuted and killed Christians. And yet, God used him not in spite of his past, but as an example of His mercy.
“Then others will realize that they, too, can believe in him…”
— 1 Timothy 1:16 (NLT)
Paul’s story proves that no matter how far you’ve strayed, God can still write a new chapter.
The Prodigal Son: When Grace Runs to You
In Luke 15, Jesus tells the story of a son who squandered everything—money, morality, reputation. He wasted his inheritance on wild living, including prostitutes (Luke 15:30), and found himself broken and ashamed.
But when he came home, expecting rejection, his father ran to him.
You haven’t gone too far.
You’re not out of God’s reach.
You’re not outside the “Find My” radius of grace.
The Lost Sheep and the Lost Coin
To drive the point home, Jesus also tells two more parables in Luke 15:
The Lost Sheep
The shepherd leaves the 99 to go after the one.
“There is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents…”
— Luke 15:7
The Lost Coin
A woman tears her house apart to find one lost silver coin. And when she finds it, she celebrates.
“There is joy in the presence of God’s angels when even one sinner repents.”
— Luke 15:10
God’s pursuit of you is intentional. Personal. Persistent.
Come Back While You Still Can
God’s mercy is not only for yesterday, it’s available right now. Don’t wait until it’s too late to turn around.
“Seek the Lord while you can find him. Call on him now while he is near…
…for he will forgive generously.”
— Isaiah 55:6–7 (NLT)
You Have NOT Gone Too Far
It’s bad theology to believe your sins are stronger than God’s grace. It’s bad theology to believe the cross can’t cover your mess. The truth is this:
- If you still have breath, you still have hope.
- If you’re willing to return, God is already running toward you.
- If you feel lost, heaven is ready to throw a party when you come home.
Final Word
Whatever you’ve done… wherever you’ve been… God’s mercy reaches further. Let today be the day you silence the lie and believe the truth:
You are not too far gone. You are one prayer away from restoration.
