Scripture Focus: Psalm 36:5 (KJV)
“Thy mercy, O Lord, is in the heavens; and thy faithfulness reacheth unto the clouds.”
Have you ever felt like you’ve gone too far for God to find you? Like you’ve messed up one too many times, taken one too many wrong turns, or distanced yourself so much that there’s no way back?
Let me assure you of something powerful today: God is in relentless pursuit of you.
A Love That Doesn’t Quit
The Hebrew word used in Psalm 36 for “mercy” is hesed—which translates to lovingkindness or unfailing love. That’s the kind of love God has for you. It’s not based on how many times you’ve gotten it right—it’s rooted in who He is.
“Your unfailing love, O Lord, is as vast as the heavens; your faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds.” —Psalm 36:5 (NLT)
No matter how many times you’ve wandered, rejected, or even cursed Him—He hasn’t stopped loving you. And He never will.
You may have slammed the door in His face, but He’s still knocking.
“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock…” —Revelation 3:20
He Loves His Enemies Too
Jesus doesn’t just tell us to love our enemies—He modeled it.
“But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you…” —Matthew 5:44
Even if you’ve positioned yourself as God’s enemy, He doesn’t return the favor. He just keeps loving. You curse Him? He blesses you. You hate Him? He reaches out again. Why? Because His love is not conditional. It’s relentless.
You can be His worst enemy, He is coming after you. You can curse Him, but that won’t change His mind. You can hate on Him, He will just love you more!
And it never changes.
“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.” —Hebrews 13:8
The One That Wanders
Jesus told a story in Matthew 18 that captures the heart of God’s pursuit perfectly. He said if a shepherd has 100 sheep and one wanders off, that shepherd will leave the ninety-nine to find the one.
“And if he finds it, I tell you the truth, he will rejoice over it more than over the ninety-nine that didn’t wander away!” —Matthew 18:13 (NLT)
God’s love is:
- Individual – He knows your name.
- Patient – He waits as long as it takes.
- Seeking – He’s coming after you.
- Rejoicing – Heaven throws a party when you come home.
- Protecting – He carries you back with care.
God Never Gives Up on You
The Bible is full of people who walked away from God, yet time after time, He welcomed them back. The Israelites turned their backs on Him countless times. But not once did God say, “That’s it. I’m done.” Instead, His love kept reaching.
And that same love is reaching for you.
Stop Running. He’s Right Behind You.
Maybe today’s the day you stop running. Maybe today is the day you open the door to the One who’s been knocking all along.
God isn’t chasing you to punish you. He’s chasing you to rescue you.
“Your unfailing love, O Lord, is as vast as the heavens; your faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds.” —Psalm 36:5 (NLT)
Final Word
You are not too far gone.
You have not made too many mistakes.
You are not beyond hope.
He loves you. He wants you. He’s after you. Stop Running!
Let today be the day you say, “Here I am, Lord.”
