There are things we should forget! There are things in our past we should not hold onto that will only keep us from moving forward with God.
This is what Paul said…
“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:13-14
Paul knew, in order to press forward, there were things that he had to let go of.
If there is anything from your past that is holding you back from moving forward with God, this is the day to say goodbye.
You cannot do it by yourself! In 1 Peter, the Bible says, “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”
Give it to God. Ask for forgiveness. Move forward.
Then there are things we should remember, things we should reflect on.
These are memories of our past that show us how faithful God has been. Pivotal moments in our lives that if it wasn’t for the goodness of God, things would have not worked out.
Remember those valleys you have been through? You should reflect on His goodness, His provision, His unwavering presence, and His Word that never fails.
Remember those mountain top experiences? You should reflect on how it would have been impossible to get there on your own. If it wasn’t for His strength and help, we would still be in our valley.
Remember the sickness you have been through? It has been by His stripes you have been healed!
“But then I recall all you have done, O Lord; I remember your wonderful deeds of long ago. They are constantly in my thoughts. I cannot stop thinking about your mighty works.” Psalm 77:11-12 NLT
Today, we remember. If it had not been for the goodness of God, where would I be!
