Acts 2:39 “For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.”
Promises, promises, promises! Unfortunately, we live in a world full of broken promises.
Sadly, it has become part of our culture to not accept man at his word. Because of this, contracts on top of contracts are signed and reviewed by attorneys to try to keep man’s part of their bargain. But even then, somehow people still seem to break covenant and not keep their word over and over again.
All this leads to mistrust and carries over from man to God. We think, “If man cannot keep their promises, why should I count on a God I cannot even see?”
You see the devil -our enemy- would want to make you think when God doesn’t come through for you, that He hasn’t kept His promises.
The truth of the matter is simply this… we have either stepped outside of His promises or will, or our timing is not aligned with His timing.
Don’t blame God, nor be angry with God, for not being faithful when you are forcing Him to be on YOUR OWN timeline or within YOUR OWN WILL.
From the beginning of time, God’s promises have always been about FAITH: waiting and patience.
One example of many in the Old Testament is the promise of the Promised Land. From the deliverance of Egypt until the land that flowed with milk and honey… there were a lot of daily provisions in the wilderness. The wilderness is not always a comfortable place because it is a season of just enough.
Your FAITH in the promise in the wilderness will be one of your most trying times, wondering if God is going to come through. When you lay your head down at night, you may question, “Where is the provision God promised?” Every single day in the wilderness, God did not fail His people! Why? Because His promises never fail…NEVER!
Romans 4:19-21 “And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah’s womb: He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.”
You and I must be fully persuaded that if He said, it WILL happen. We should stagger not at the promises of God through unbelief. Unbelief is the enemies’ weapon trying to stop us from receiving the promises of God.
Matthew 13:58 “And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.”
The devils’ strategy is to keep you away from everything God has promised, especially the promise of His Spirit living inside of you. The enemy would want to tell you the experience in the book of Acts was only for then and not for now.
Acts 2:39 “For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.”
What was promised before this scripture?
Acts 2:38 “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”
John the Baptist was confirming the promise that was yet to be poured out when he said in Matthew 3:11…
“I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance. but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the HolyGhost, and with fire:”
Jesus said…
Luke 24:49 “And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.”
